Summer brings warm temperatures and swimming pools. It brings outdoor activities and family events. It also brings summer vacation for your children. Your children are now at home for the entire summer, leaving you with the role of entertaining and caring for them. You will notice that they eat more, as all of their meals are in the home. You will also notice that they are constantly asking for snacks and treats, as a result of the warmer weather. After the first week or so, you realize that you have filled them up with ice cream and other non healthy dairy treats and you begin to worry about their eating habits. What are some healthy choices you can provide them in lieu of those sugary ice cream treats?
In any given two week period, according to research by NPD Group, 40% of Americans will eat ice cream. Summer and ice cream just go hand in hand. However, yogurt, or specifically frozen yogurt provides the same type of snack for those who enjoy ice cream treats. Frozen yogurt cups are cold, providing that coolness that is often desired. It also contains sweetness and candies and dessert syrups can be added to it, for flavor.
The frozen yogurt supply also comes in a variety of flavors, just as ice cream cups do. According to a recent survey of International Ice Cream Association member companies, vanilla remains the most popular flavor among their consumers at 28%. Those who enjoy vanilla ice cream can enjoy vanilla frozen yogurt cups. The taste is similar to that of vanilla ice cream, but it is healthier and contains less sugar in each bite.
An additional option to eliminate cups for ice cream is that of gelato cups. Gelato contains between 3 and 8% milkfat and 25 to 30% air. The milkfat contents are less than a traditional cup of vanilla ice cream, but are similar to that of a frozen yogurt cups. The difference lies in the preferences of taste of the person eating the dessert treat. Most of these items come in the form of paper cups that can be frozen in the freezer for a convenient and quick snack time. Paper cups are great for young children and can be easily disposed of once the ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato treat is finished. Frozen yogurt cups are not only a healthier option for children, but they can be consumed more frequently because of the reduction in fat and sugar.
Many parents are left over the summer finding entertainment and snack options for their children. Children and adults eat a lot of ice cream treats over the summer. These ice cream treats can be traded out for healthier options, including frozen yogurt and gelato desserts. They contain less milkfat and less sugar. The reduction in milkfat and sugar allows the snacks to be eaten more frequently, which is a big convenience for parents responsible for their children?s eating choices.
