Ninety percent of U.S. households regularly indulge in a sweet, frozen treat. The most popular is ice cream. In any given two-week period, according to research by NPD Group, 40% of Americans will eat ice cream. There are about 1.5 billion gallons of ice cream and similar desserts produced in the United States every year with June being the month that the most ice cream is produced. Ice cream is sweet, literally, but it’s not everyone’s fav.
Other popular frozen sweet treats are frozen yogurt and gelato. Frozen yogurt has become more popular. At the end of 2013, there were an estimated 2,582 frozen yogurt stores. According to Quora, there are less than 850 gelato shops in the U.S. but still, gelato remains a fast-growing dessert.
